After the Polls Close

After the polls close, and every ballot has been cast at a particular polling location, the Lock 2 Switch will be closed on all voting machines.  The absentee ballots are then to be entered into the machine, and are totaled separately as are any contested ballots.  With the Lock 2 Switch closed at the proper time of day, vote totals can be viewed for various categories of vote information and individual ballots can be seen.

Vote totals are contained electronically as digital data in multiple places, including the memory of the controller, in each Palm device, in the flash memory, and then, they are written to the CD using the CD read/write drive, and activated from the Palm device.  The totals are also printed for each selection device and as consolidated totals.  The consolidated totals are kept all day, and are backed up in each Palm device as a redundant feature of the machine.  The totals for each machine are consolidated for the precinct, and are printed and posted for the public to see.  The media and candidates can receive a CD version of the totals for there records.
