Collecting Results

      Election officials print an unofficial tally of votes as soon as the polls close.  A CD ROM of the totals is also prepared at the same time.  Recounts may be conducted using the electronic records from each selection mechanism, the paper records, or the electronic precinct totals.

      EVMS fully protects individual ballot secrecy.  The electronic vote records are maintained in random order in the system memory devices, and the printed ballot records are mechanically shuffled.  It is not possible to trace any of the vote records to an individual voter.
