Palm

      Each Palm has a unique serial number and unique protected counter.  If a Palm is swapped out and replaced with another device that has different totals, the PC immediately recognizes the bogus numbers and rewrites them with the correct number.  There is no other notice to anyone that this is the case.  The assumption is that the PC has the correct information.  The PC in turn does compare its totals with the totals in the other Palms, and updates the new device when it is recognized.
