Physical Specifications

      The voting machine is an electronic array of lights and switches, housed in a rectangular aluminum frame, with serial port connections that run to a Linux computer.  The PC is connected by serial cable to the voting machine selection panel and by USBV2 cable to the Palm and printer.

      There are two versions of the voting machine: the Party-Lever version (or New York style) and the Australian version.  The Party-Lever version of the machine accepts Party style ballots, and groups candidates by the office they are running for in vertical groups and political party affiliation in horizontal groups.  The Australian version accepts Australian style ballots, and groups candidates by the office they are running for in vertical stacks only.
