Physical Specifications
The voting machine is an electronic array
of lights and switches, housed in a rectangular aluminum frame, with serial
port connections that run to a Linux computer. The
PC is connected by serial cable to the voting machine selection panel and by
USBV2 cable to the Palm and printer.
There are two versions of the voting machine: the Party-Lever version (or New York
style) and the Australian version. The Party-Lever version of the
machine accepts Party style ballots, and groups candidates by the office they
are running for in vertical groups and political party affiliation in
horizontal groups. The Australian version accepts Australian style
ballots, and groups candidates by the office they are running for in vertical
stacks only.
